Building A Free Website At DevHub.com

DevHub is a free website that is designed to make you money right off the bat. The problems with some free websites, is that you don't know what to put on the pages to fill them up. With DevHub, you can add your own content, but you can also make good money adding the content modules provided from Dev-Hub that automatically make you money.

Signing Up

1. First go to http://www.devhub.com/. (link will open in a new window so you may continue reading tutorial) Click the "Get Started" button. You will be asked to choose what type of site you want, a free blog or free small business website. For this tutorial, I have chosen a free small business website. You will then be asked to provide a bit of information about your website. After you have don that, click the "continue" button. You will now be asked to choose a domain name for your website. You may choose a free sub-domain, use an existing domain name, opt for a top-level domain name which does cost a couple dollars but recommended or you can choose a free DevHub subdomain name. You can type in a name and click the "continue" button. On the next page you will need to enter your name, email address and create a password. (The great thing here is you can allow a trusted friend to help you build your website by putting their email in the box on the right). When finished, check the "Accept Terms and Conditions" box and click "Let's Go". The next page is your "Quick Start Guide". Select any of the topics in the menu above to learn more about each of them. I recommend you review and read the guides before moving forward. When you are ready, at any time, you may click the button at the bottom labeled, "Start Building".

Choosing a Layout

2. The following page is the "DevHub Dashboard" and may look a bit confusing, but everything there is easy to edit and add features. To change the layout colors and style, click the "Styles and Colors" button in the top toolbar. A window will open with different templates. You can pick a template, then adjust the color wheel to suit your needs. For page content editing, just click on any item to upload photos, edit and add text. Also at any time, you may click the "view/preview site" button at the top. Pay attention to the "DevHub stream" box in the middle left - it will give you hints on what you should do next. Also on the top right is the "editor tray". This is where you can add new pages to your site, add blog posts, optimize your pages so they can be found by the search engines and add new content and modules. To add a new module from the right box, just click on it and drag it to the location on the page where you would like it. You can also use the toolbar at the top of the page to edit your website. (Always make sure to save your changes by clicking the "Save and Publish" button in the top toolbar).

Building Your Site

3. You will see that there are a few provided items such as text boxes already on your page. You will notice the "Move / Edit" box near each module. To move it to somewhere else on your page, click and hold your left mouse button on "Move" and drag it to where you want it on the page. To edit the content of a module, click the "Edit" button and you will be shown the editing options of that module. (Always make sure to save your changes by clicking the "Save and Publish" button in the top toolbar).
